The Café CLIL group agreed on a very focused and clear task:

Hi dear colleagues,

I've put together a section of scanned textbook material on the topic of digestion from the following book:

GCSE Biology second edition 2000, D.G. Mackean, John Murray Ltd.

We're talking about students aged 14-16 and the textbook is intended for mother tongue speakers of English, but is one which is used in other countries by colleagues working through the medium of English. I've reduced the size of the files so that I can send you the whole section comfortably. I decided to send you the while thing as I thought it would make more sense to you to see the complete 'content' rather than texts in isolation. Feel free to simply focus on part of this material if you wish.

Our topic is reading. It is broad for a reason, and that is to give us more freedom to explore the skill in whatever direction we like. Our task is simply to consider using this material in a non-native speaker context, what to do with it in terms of dealing with the reading it involves.

We will meet at 5pm Central European time on Oct 28th.

Look forward to it!

Best wishes

Keith

The pages from the book follow below:

Our discussion should produce some clear outlines of the demands of the material above for non-native speaker readers of Science. But, it should also produce resources which suggest principles for adaptation of NS resources, and also send messages to publishers about what is needed for the CLIL target audience.
